University of New Mexico
Vantage’s analysis and recommendations
for management, financial, and operational issues result in
best practices that contribute to the ongoing success of client
organizations.
The University of New Mexico serves 24,700
students on its main campus, which comprises 600 acres and over
200 buildings in the heart of Albuquerque.
Telecom facilities include 23,000 lines in
multiple networked PBXs, and a 90,000 pair cable plant serving the
University Campus and Medical Center Complex.
The main telecommunications Switch room houses
the primary PBX serving 10,000 users and all ancillary systems including
transmission electronics, wire facilities, voice processing, 911,
video, network and management systems. The services are potentially
impacted by Hospital construction in the vicinity of the switch
room.
Vantage was appointed to assess the business
continuity and disaster recovery issues associated with the potential
impact of new construction in the area of the main campus telecommunications
switch room.
Vantage performed a detailed review of the
services provided through the switch room and the implications of
potential failure as a result of upcoming construction activities.
Vantage reviewed construction plans and developed recommendations
for prudent protective measures to be incorporated into the plans.
Working closely with a joint committee of University and UNM Hospital
senior management, Vantage produced a telecommunications business
continuity and disaster recovery program.
Ongoing appointments include implementation
of the remediation recommendations and development of a long-term
telephone planning strategy.
