Creating a Next Generation Community Resource for Learning and Information Delivery

The new Digital Library/Learning Resource Center at Riverside Community College is a showcase of technology convergence and integration within a facility dedicated to learning and information delivery. Driven by a desire to optimize information accessibility through state-of-the-art enabling technologies, the facility features a 198-seat Auditorium, “smart” classrooms, a “tele-meeting” room, a digital media production and edit facility, and a central media distribution and control center. This Media Distribution Center (MDC) serves as a hub for access to digital media within the building and throughout all of the campuses in the District. The MDC supports standard and high definition video streaming using multiple video delivery platforms, distance learning, and master control of building audiovisual systems. The building’s data network infrastructure supports the full range of academic and administrative activities as well as Voice-over-IP telephone service. Both wired and wireless data network access is provided.
